THE

gateway PAVILION

Framing a perfect view of Rangitoto Island, the Gateway Pavilion provided the inspiration and foundation of Mawhiti Waiheke’s architectural vision.

history

Originally conceptualised as the New Zealand Pavilion for the 2012 Venice Architectural Biennale by award-winning New Zealand architects Stevens Lawson, the Gateway Pavilion remained on the drawing boards due to budget and logistical constraints. However, in 2017, through an education programme developed for Unitec spearheaded by the Waiheke biennale event ‘Sculpture on The Gulf’ – the Gateway Pavilion was realised and brought to life at Matiatia Bay.
